Shelley Barratt - Singer, Songwriter, Acoustic Guitars, Keys, Percussion

Shelley Barratt MusicROOTS Shelley is a child of the Southwest with music in her blood and spirit. What budded in Albuquerque, New Mexico with records, radio, piano and choral singing, culminated in a 3-year stint as lead singer for the locally and regionally-known band, Sub Culture, and the release of their independent recordings. Shelley wrote and played music solo in Nashville, Boulder, Santa Clara/San Jose, and Phoenix, returning home to Albuquerque where she formed the Shelley Barratt Band. Shelley’s voice has a soothing effect, offering a rare level of intimacy to the listener. She has been in bands, drummed, sang back-up for various artists in many locales, and has created music for modern dance, special occasions and visual media with acoustic guitars as well as classic percussion instruments and keys/piano.

FUN NOTE for you PHOENIX folks: I sang live, and sometimes drummed, with my friend Robert Lang and Seven Oceans (backing vocals for their album "Perfect Day"), not to mention a quick guest stint with Jennifer Spector (an amazing woman and folk artist). I wrote music for modern dance with Rayn Dance Theatre, and also for women's a cappella with Seven (my sister Tammy started the group, and she is also the amazing background vocals in many of my recordings.) Venues: Scottsdale Center for the Arts, Coffee Plantation, Duck & Decanter, Xtreme Bean, Fiddlers Dream, Phoenix Metro art galleries, ASU.

FUN NOTE for you CALI folks: I drummed and sang for The Grateful Dudes; Hank later went on to form VanAsh and now Autumn and the Fall Guys; Tom went on to play in The Stragglyrs. Venues: Blue Rock Shoot, City Lights, Espresso Garden, Mission City, Red Rock Café.

FUN NOTE for you BOULDER folks: I sang briefly with a professional a cappella group (Divy Nelson, Saphyre) and a co-ed a cappella group at CU, played on the Pearl Street Mall, and at evenings of meditation with Shaashvat Amritam and the Omkar Foundation.

FUN NOTE for you NASHVILLE folks: I only touched the tip of the iceberg by doing some studio work and in-the-round home sessions, hanging out with the likes of Sean Kelly and The Lounge Flounders, Suzanne Jusst and more (a long time ago!)

If ya find me here, and I played with you in the past, PLEASE drop a note of when and where!
